World’s Cheapest Android, named Akash, produced in India.

Students from India have a reason to celebrate the highly anticipated “Sakshat Tablet” was successfully launched in India on Wednesday. The tablet is called “Akash” and was jointly developed by India in collaboration with the Datawind, and can easily be obtained for ($ 45) 2,200/- in Indian rupees.

Akash tablet was developed jointly by India, with the UK Based company Datawind. The tablet will run Google’s Android 2.2 (Froyo) and a 7 “inch LCD, 800×480 resolutions. Akash tablet has 256 MB of RAM and 32 GB of expandable memory with two USB ports. Akash Tablet also comes with a 12 months replacement warranty.

Akash is a new next-generation Tablet PC, which comes with attractive features. This is one of the cheapest tablet PC, which launched in India. This tab is made to the requirement of users and especially for the needs of students. The tablet comes with a 7 inch wide touch screen 480 × 800 pixels, which is based on the Android operating system 2.2 and powered by Connexant Processor.

With Akash tablet we can work on a Wi-Fi and GPRS Internet connections.     $45. That won’t last long once the patent trolls, Microsoft and Apple, get into the picture.

    I think they should have punched up the battery life. 3 hrs is pretty dismal. Aside from continuous use, if you imagine grabbing your tablet randomly and using it, you may have 2 hrs, an hour or less left. I think if one wanted to make a 3 hour battery work, you would create some sort of pop in, pop out battery so you could switch very quickly from an exhausted to a fresh battery.

    In India we are not worried about patent toll. that is only applicable in those where people are slaves of corporates. let them pay for the idiotic rules in those countries. linux kernel (GPL) gives me the freedom to share the software. and i will do it.
